Interests:

Nathan Mol Edmonton RealtorI have been told numerous times throughout my life by different people that I have a “thirst for knowledge.” As a child until I was about thirteen I satisfied this thirst by reading; in the summer I would read on average 20 books a week, whether they were novels or non-fiction. I loved humor, mystery and science-fiction novels, equally as much as non-fiction books about geography, cultures, architecture, history, sports, or jets, cars, and boats.  Some of my favorite reading memories are:

  • My dad’s two decade collection of National Geographic magazines, and especially the maps.

  • The Macdonald Hall series  by Gordon Korman, as well as “Don’t Care High”, “Son of Interflux”, and “A Semester in the Life of a Garbage Bag”

  • My Childcraft Encyclopedias

  • The Encyclopedia Brown Series

  • My dad’s Hardy Boys books I discovered in my grandparents attic.

  • The Lord of the Rings trilogy

In my teens I got much more focused on sports: track and field, swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and rugby were some of the sports I played. But my biggest passion became soccer. I played, coached, or refereed seven days a week in the summer and fall. I began coaching and refereeing at when I was 14 and by my mid-twenties I had coached and refereed at multiple national championships both at the club, and All-star levels.

During my university years my love of music grew. Although I like most genres, when I buy CD’s they tend to be in the Alt-rock genre. Some of my favorite all-time artists are: U2, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Daft Punk, Audioslave, Dave Matthews Band, Led Zeppelin, Incubus, Joel Plaskett, and Wintersleep.
I don’t have much time for TV but when I do, it’s almost always comedy:  Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Concords, Californication, Arrested Development, and the Jon Dore Show.

My Real Estate Background:

Similar to Sheldon, I grew up in a family that lived and breathed real estate. I can remember when I was growing up in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island sitting at my grandparents table after supper, listening to my grandfather on the phone negotiate sales on waterfront acreages with buyers from New England, New York, and Germany. From a young age I always loved to jump in the car with my Grandfather, dad, or uncles to go look at homes around Charlottetown or acreages in rural areas that they were listing (they always put their signs up themselves, unlike here in Edmonton where we outsource it).

Despite my fascination with real estate in those days I felt I needed to explore different paths rather than getting into the family business, by becoming a REALTOR®. My grandfather Stanley had started Mol Real Estate, the first real estate brokerage in PEI, in 1962 after moving to the “Island” from Chatham, Ontario. Before he began selling real estate on PEI, any person who wanted to buy or sell property would have to visit the office of one specific lawyer who would have two piles of paper on his desk; one for people who wanted to buy, and one for those who wanted to sell. Anyone who was interested would have to come to his office and sort through the piles themselves. Within a couple of years Stanley had introduced marketing strategies to PEI that were cutting edge at the time, such as holding the first open houses, and targeting specific markets by advertising in specialized newspapers in the US, and Europe.

My father David and two of my uncles, Leonard, and Calvin followed my grandfather into the family business when they were in their mid-twenties.  Leonard and Calvin are currently REALTORs with Coldwell Banker Parker Realty in Charlottetown, and up until his retirement this past year at the age of 85 my grandfather would still sell one or two large farms each year.

I believe that three of the most important factors that create value for real estate clients are: knowledge, strong personal relationships, and innovation in marketing. I have created a number of additional websites that serve my clients’ specific interests: I developed www.Edmhomes.com as a Private-Access website where buyers can save up to the minute information from their customized home or investment property searches. Recently I developed a site that allows people to find Edmonton homes for sale easily, and to create additional exposure for my clients who are selling their homes. From time to time I also write articles and post statistics on a blog I developed to help give readers more information about Edmonton condos.
